What "split system cleaning" actually means
The indoor coil is where 90% of the dirt + mould lives — so that's the part we go after hardest. Here's the order we do it in.
STEP 1 · COVER + PROTECT
Catch tarp under the unit, towels on the floor, drop sheet covering anything underneath. We don't make a mess in your house, and if anything inside the unit drips during the clean it lands in the tarp not on your floor.
STEP 2 · OPEN + INSPECT
Front cover off, filter out, blower wheel checked. We take a quick photo of the state of the coil before we start so you can see the before. After a couple of Townsville summers the build-up is heavy — black biofilm and a brown dust mat right across the fins.
STEP 3 · CHEMICAL WASH THE COIL
This is the step that actually shifts the grime. We spray a biocidal cleaner right across the indoor coil fins, let it soak so it breaks down the dirt and mould, then high-pressure rinse the lot out. The runoff goes into the tarp. The coil comes out the colour the manufacturer intended — which is what gets your airflow and cooling back.
STEP 4 · DRAIN PAN + LINE FLUSH
Drain pan vacuumed and biocide-flushed. Drain line flushed from inside out. This is what stops the #1 service call in Townsville — water dripping from the indoor unit because the drain line clogged with algae.
STEP 5 · FILTER + REASSEMBLE

Optional add-on at a flat per-unit rate. Condenser fins washed with low-pressure water (high pressure bends them — careful work). Any clogged grass clippings, leaves, dust pulled out. How often should I clean a split system in Townsville?
Every 12 months for a home that runs the AC a few hours a day. Every 6-8 months if you run it most of the day, smoke in the house, or have pets that shed heavily. Can I clean the filter myself?
Yes — every month, takes 5 minutes, costs $0. Pull the front cover off, take the filter out, vacuum it, wash it under the tap if it's dirty, dry it, put it back. The bit you need a pro for is the coil itself — DIY kitchen-spray on the coil damages the fins and voids warranties.
What if my split is dripping water inside?
90% of the time it's a blocked drain line — Townsville's wet-season humidity makes the line clog with algae after 12-18 months. Our drain flush fixes it. If it's NOT a drain blockage, it might be a frozen coil (low refrigerant) or cracked pan — both need a refrigeration tech, which we'll refer you to.
